In the old world of steam, there was once a curious child, a boy plagued with horrific nightmares, his first moment lost in the dreaming darkness being on a starless night amidst the chaos of a dreadfully violent storm. Each evening the boy's dreams were splattered with pure terror and torment, and within every dream, at the horrible end, the boy would be startled awake at the very moment that he was gruesomely killed. However, the wicked curse of these nightmares was not the horrors that he faced and endured within, but in that upon awakening he could never remember in what ghastly manner it was that he had died. The boy believed this to be an omen, and he became utterly obsessed with unveiling the mystery behind his nightmarish death. His belief was that the dreadful end to his dark dreams was to be his miserable fate in life.

So it was that the boy grew, and with him, his nightmares, stirring him awake in the dead of night, stealing his precious sleep, causing him during the daylight hours to appear more like the walking dead. The boy became a young man, and his obsession with his death consumed him and coaxed him to the edge, toward the very brink of lunacy. He became a remarkable inventor, his ingenious contraptions all created in the zealous pursuit of documenting his dreams to film, recording the death that had forever haunted him so that he might finally know, and in turn, avoid the grim fate that he believed awaited him. His paranoia grew, shadows reached eerily for him as he walked the cobblestone streets, dark figures moved within the gloom. Were they after his inventions, his secrets, or were they after his soul? Spiraling down, a descent into madness, there was finally a breakthrough, a device he had long been designing showed promising results on animals, but to test it on himself might have damaging effects, fatal effects, YET "they" were lurking, and closing in. They know of his laboratory, they know where he sleeps. He will have to leave, to hide; a train ride through the countryside, he must work on the move and in secret. Night falls. How is it possible?! They've found him, they are on the train! He has nowhere to run, or to turn. He must lock the door, he must drug himself to sleep, and this night, he must use "The Nightmare Machine."

The Florida Steampunk Society has announced the first in a series of three Steampunk gatherings to be held in 2012 in the state of Florida.

This year, the creative folks of the Academy Theatre return to host their 2-day celebration.

The cultural festival "AETHERCIRCUS" the fortress "gray spot" of 28 to 29 April 2012 with its variety of cultural contributions to the world of experience to create an alternate past. There will be concerts of various musical and performance groups from Europe and abroad, workshops (for dancing, singing and crafts), exhibitions, and readings. The comprehensive program will appeal to people of all ages. Especially young artists / artists (also from the upper stages of various high schools and technical secondary school of design) to get an opportunity to create works of art in fashion design, sculpture and painting. We want to offer a contest with the chance to be a work of art as part of the cultural festival to a wide audience. The best three from each division will receive a cash prize.

ÆtherFest is Texas oldest three-day steampunk "unconventional people's convention" and festival!. The Great New England Steampunk Exhibition is the premier steampunk event in all of New England. With the recent completion of our 2011 show in Fitchburg, we are already getting ready for 2012. Our next show will be September 28 to 30, 2012 at the Connecticut Convention Center. Applications for performers and vendors currently being accepted on our website.

OctopodiCon is a steampunk convention in Oklahoma City, OCtober 5-7, 2012. Consider it a steampunk "Hogwarts", where people can enroll in make-n-take classes, attend lectures and demos, and participate in discussion panels. These count towards earning a Freshman Pin in the quest to complete a novelty Bachelor's of Steampunk degree. Details, student handbook, and Course Catalog will be on our website. When not in class, people can stroll the Promenade to See and Be Seen, refresh themselves in the Tea Parlour, attend concerts and browse the Art Gallery and Mercantile as well as meet favorite steampunk authors and people. For steampunk anime-lovers, we have panels, classes, and we're working on the contracts for some interesting anime guests. The Gears and Gizmos Dance Saturday night will be lit by Toxic Dragon and guided by DJ Bone. Among our confirmed guests are Prof. Elemental, Peter Pixie, Ay-Leen the Peacemaker, Tom Smith, and Dr. and Mrs. Grymm!

UtopiaCon is an eclectic convention that caters to Faerie, Gothic, Pirate, Medieval, Renaissance, Steampunk, Gaming, Tribal, and all Friends and Fea of Olde. The Jubilee is on Saturday evening where everyone can gather together in music, dance and performances.

Steamcon is one of the largest, longest running steampunk conventions in the world.  We have big plans for our fourth year.  Our theme; Victorian Monsters is a nod to the time of year, but also to the huge number of classic monsters that came out of the Victorian era.  Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Spring Heeled Jack, the Invisible Man, Jack the Ripper and many more were born in that time period.  At Steamcon IV, we intend to give them a steampunk makeover.  Join us for many ghastly frights and ghoulish delights.
