Holla, steampunx! I finally managed to get into this bad boy after lots of trouble with the whole registration process. Someone from this board approached me on my etsy site, a ways back, and said I should post some pix of my jewelry. So here I am, slapped pink from registering and raring to go. So right off the bat, I should tell y'all...I don't think I'm a steampunk, per say... But I've always always always used gears in my art..from huge industrial sized ones right down to the teensiest watch gears. I love their symmetry, symbolism, and great utilitarianism and am so happy that the whole steampunk scene has made it such a popular aesthetic. Okay, that said, Ima gonna attempt to post some pix. Hope y'all like my shizzle ;) Any feedback, good or bad, is much appreciated. Jenna Hewitt is an author, and the leading designer for SparkleyJem. She creates Steampunk costumes and jewelry.

Q. What are some of your favorite items that you've created?

A.The absinthe fairy costume, the Steampunk in Wonderland mini top hat, the the Brittania union flag pin, and the Royal Genius necklace.

The absinthe fairy gown is a complete costume created as a showpiece for the victorian steampunk society convention in Lincoln UK. It is currently on show at Bradford Industrial museum till May. It includes all the underwear required to give a true victorian ball gown silhoutte, including hourglass corset and crinoline, with layers of net, lace and silk building into a huge skirt and elegantly shaped apple green bodice.

I started by creating the underwear for the gown, then cut the bodice to fit over the corset, the skirt was made to go over the crinoline cage in layers. For a comprehensive step by step of how this and other complex outfits were created you can read all about it on my blog sparklyjem.blogspot.com.

steampunk beetle ringMechanique was established in 2010. We design unique, cutting edge, "fine" steampunk pieces. Our pieces are highly modern with an old-world taste. You will also find many pieces that have a Gothic or Victorian influence to them.

We use top quality, finely-detailed mechanical watch movements which we hand pick ourselves. Most movements that we use are NOS (new old stock). NOS means they were made at the factory, but never got used. Each piece is individually hand-crafted, and made with the utmost care. The movements that Mechanique uses are authentic. We turn these already gorgeous movements into stunning jewelry and accessory pieces. We use all authentic movements, no castings!

Mechanique also utilizes clock movements and takes them apart for their fantastically intricate brass gears. All clock gears that are used are cleaned and treated. The natural patina on all of the parts that we hand pick are stunning, and allows us to make truly one of a kind statement pieces.

Mechanique doesn't limit ourselves to jewelry and accessories. We also make one-of-a-kind Steampunk lamps!!! All lamps are made using found objects with authentic old meters!!! They are beautifully crafted and very different - something that a Mad Scientist might have on his work bench!

Mechanique is a smaller company and we work out of our home in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. We are a two-member team.
Megg Sweeney (owner) - Creator of all things jewelry
Sean Flynn (partner) - The guy behind the madness in the lamps

We do custom orders.

Yes, you read that correctly. We do, in fact, do custom orders! So if there is something that used to be here, but isn't anymore, let me know! I MIGHT be able to make it again OR at least come close. Do you have something fresh from your brain that you want to see created? Let me know. We are ALWAYS open to ideas!

We do bridal parties.
Mechanique is capable of making the jewelry for your Steampunk, Gothic, or Victorian Wedding. We have done a full bridal party in 2011 that included all of the Bridesmaids, Groom, and Groomsmen.

Hand-painted Neck Lace Jabot Choker of Brass and Blue with Steampunk LocketHello, Steampunk Community!  My name is Corey, and I'm brand new here...  I was pointed here by someone who found me on my Etsy shop.  I think she was doing what a lot of us like to do:  scope out cool Steampunk clothes and accessories!  I was asked to introduce myself and my work, but as I started to explore this site and thought about it a bit more I realized I could touch on some topics for Steampunk Community that would make my blog post a bit more than a simple "look at my stuff" sort of thing...

Now, personally I'm relatively new to the Steampunk phenomenon.  I've only been to one convention--the Gaslight Gathering here in San Diego.  I've tooled around the internet exploring a lot of the various Steampunk-oriented sites, and found a lot of visual eye candy that I just drool over.  The art, the DIY projects, the props, the costumes, the videos--it all looks like so much fun it's hard not to fall in love with the style!

The more I read about Steampunk, the more I realize that there are lots of different "shades" of it depending on where your interest lies.  Some love it for the social aspects, some love it for the creativity, some love it for the philosophies reflected in it.  The great thing about it is that it can so easily embrace everyone's bent.  Personally, I love it for the attire.

I may be biased.  I have an MFA in Theatre with an emphasis in Costume Design (not a unique background in the Steampunk community, I have learned--there are a LOT of theatre folk interested in it!).  I design and sew for a living, so I pay attention to the costumes that are worn.  Much like theatre, there are lots of degrees of realism in Steampunk costuming, varying from the utterly fantastical to vintage recreation.  Part of the fun is how one decides to "tweak" their clothing for their own needs or how closely one hews to historical accuracy.  There are pros and cons to each side of that debate, but certainly beautiful results regardless of one's preferences.  And one can have a fabulous Steampunk ensemble with relatively little investment, or take pride in special purchases, or even seek out actual authentic vintage pieces.  The range is limitless.
